Cork Graham and Mehgan Heaney-Grier of Treasure Quest: Snake Island

The newest TV show to air on Discovery Channel in the summer of 2015 is Treasure Quest: Snake Island. I saw the first preview for this show while watching Alaskan Bush People. This show will premiere on Friday, July 17th, 2015 at 10:00 pm. The 10:00 pm est time on Discovery Channel has created some hits including Alaskan Bush People. The audience for Friday nights on the Discovery Channel is enormous.

Season 1, Season Finale

Here are a few videos for those looking for a sneak peak of the season 1 season finale:

It will be interesting to see if there will be a season 2 or how the season ends up with this crew.

Season 1, Episode 3 Preview

This one looks really good. Will you be watching tonight?

UPDATE: I have had the opportunity to watch the first episode as a prescreener and do a review. I also have been offered an opportunity to interview Mehgan Heaney-Grier so look for that on Friday, July 10th, 2015.

Mehgan Heaney-Grier Interview

I had the opportunity to do a quick 10 minute interview with Mehgan Heaney-Grier one week prior to the premiere. Here is a brief overview:

What got you started in free diving?

“I was a very lucky child.” Meghan explained that at age 10 she moved from Minnesota to the Florida Keys. While in the keys most of the recreational activities her family did involved the water. As most can imagine, when you live in the Florida Keys you are going to spend a lot of time in the ocean or on the sand. Mehgan mentioned the importance of getting her first depth gauge dive watch which encouraged her to go deeper and deeper into the ocean. She also has a tremendous respect for the ocean because it “will put you in your place.” She mentioned this as a level of respect for the world around us.

Is deep sea diving physically grueling? Does it get your physically fit?

Being physically fit has become very popular in modern society with Instagram, social media and selfies. Mehgan is one of the greatest free divers in history. You cannot achieve this level without a high level of fitness. When she was improving her skills set she was “winging” it with cross training. This is not to be confused with crossfit. She would complete physical activities that helped both her lung capacity and core, arm and leg strength.

How long does it take to “get to the bottom” with free diving?

When it comes to free diving there are many factors that come into play when it comes to time underwater. Depending on the dive, the location of a wreckage and other factors the time changes. Mehgan mentioned that she can get a good two (2) minutes at the ocean bottom of some wreckage sites before returning to the top.

Are you going to be on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram during the Treasure Quest: Snake Island TV Show?

Social media is the way in which fans reach out to celebrities now. I suggested to Mehgan that she live tweet during the show. She is very open to this idea. You can find her Twitter @freediverMHG. She mentioned she is better underwater than with technology but I am certain she will get the hang of it quickly. She also has a fantastic Instagram account @freediver_mhg. She also mentioned being active on Facebook and you can find her fan page here.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Mehgan. This show is sure to be a great success and her level of exposure is going to skyrocket. Just keep posting those amazing photos on Instagram Mehgan!

Recently, Discovery tried the Catching Monsters Tuna show but the ratings have not been spectacular. It looks like Discovery is going to try a different route by going with Treasure Quest: Snake Island. The main character for this show will be Captain Keith “Cappy” Plaskett. He is the team leader and the captain of the boat. The more popular characters will likely be Cork Graham and Mehgan Heaney-Grier

Mehgan Heaney-Grier the Model

Not only is Mehgan Heaney-Grier a freedive champion and actress, she is also a model. Here is one of her photos:

She was also a stunt double in the following movies:

  • Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
  • Into the Blue
  • Turistas

She has been a stunt double for Keira Knightley, Jessica Alba and Olivia Wilde. That is pretty impressive if you ask me! If you know of any other places to find her model photos please feel free to let me know in the comments below. You can go to her website here to get some photos. I was unable to figure out if she is married or has a boyfriend but I would assume so with the hyphenated last name. If someone could confirm in the comments I would be grateful. She does have a young boy so I would assume she is married to the father.

Here are two more pictures but I am not even certain they are real as they don’t even look like the same woman. Maybe these were taken before her child in her younger years?

Cork Graham

Here is an excerpt I found online about Cork Graham:

Cork Graham, Expedition Leader:  Cork has dedicated his life to searching for lost treasure.  At the age of 18, he participated in a covert search for Captain Kidd’s treasure off the coast of Vietnam but was captured and accused of being a spy.  He is now focused on the Treasure of the Trinity and determined that it will not escape his grasp.

You can also find more about Cork at the Discovery bio page here. He was a Vietnamese prisoner for a year and has works as a combat photographer and a paramilitary officer. If will be interesting to see the relationship between he and Mehgan Neaney-Grier. I am certain many people will ask if they are married or are dating.

Snakes and Pirates

On the preview for the Treasure Quest: Snake Island Discovery Channel TV Show the biggest concern for the treasure hunters are the snakes and the pirates. They are willing to endure these challenges as they are looking for a fortune worth over $400 million. I guess if you told me I could walk away with $400 million I would be more than happy to battle some snakes and pirates as well.

I assume this show is going to be a modern day pirates of the caribbean. Heck, where is Johnny Depp when you need him?

Where is the Treasure on Treasure Quest?

From the early videos I have seen, it looks as if the island is along the southeastern coast of Brazil. This is where the hundreds of millions of dollars of lost Incan gold resides. This is the Bermuda Triangle of Brazil.

Members of the Treasure Quest Treasure Hunting Team

Here are the members of the treasure hunting team that you will see on the show.

  • Captain Keith “Cappy” Plaskett
  • Cork Graham
  • Mehgan Heaney-Grier
  • Dr. Bryan Fry, Herpetologist
  • Jeremy Whalen

How Much Do They Get Paid From Discovery?

This is a question that is asked about each of the new shows on the Discovery Channel. I honestly don’t think they are getting paid all that much. They are getting tons of exposure and if they can properly use this TV slot there is a chance they can sell a product or service. Look for all of the members of the treasure hunters to have a Twitter, Instagram and even Snapchat account before the show gets started.

If you know how much these types of actors and actresses make during a season on the Discovery Channel please feel free to comment below and let us know.

I’m looking forward to the series. Should prove interesting. I’m totally into this sort of thing. I went the wrong direction with school…

The Trinity Treasure, as some choose to call it, was purported to be hidden on Antilla in the Atlantic. Ancient maps often show the Antilles or Antilla chain. If one follows history it would be rather fool hardy to willing travel into the heart of pirates and privateers as a priest on a ship full of gold. As a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, my money is on the west coast of South America. I would start in the Juan Fernandez Archipelago.

If you need some one that can find this treasure, I’m your man. I have developed a detector that is one of a kind and uses the technology of
Nicolas Tesla. It puts out a longitudinal wave that penetrates everything, iron, rock, sand etc. and discriminates between metals. If you are
searching under water you can detect it from the deck of the boat, and to pin- point it you take a second reading and where the two lines
cross you will find the target. This device is hand held, so is very portable. It is very sensitive and will detect 2 oz.of gold or silver from
1500 ft. or more. Large things can be detected miles away. I live in Titusville Fl. and can detect the Assembly building at Cape Canaveral
over 12 miles away and discriminate it. In the Caribbean I found 2 ships in 275 ft of water.

You wondered whether Mehgan Heaney-Grier is married. She married Silas Binkley on June 26, 2010. The hyphenated ‘Grier’ in her name is for her stepfather. This is according to her bio page on imdb.com.
