Years ago, when we went to the dentist it was solely for a cleaning, X-Rays and potentially to get a cavity or two filled. Braces were offered by an orthodontist in a separate office and Invisalign wasn’t even a thing. Now, there are a number of North Raleigh family dental offices that offer an all in one service center. Whether you want teeth whitening, a tooth extracted or Invisalign to straighten your teeth, you can likely do that all at one specific office.
There are definitely cosmetic dentists that offer specific services but these tend to be few and far between. There will always be oral surgeons that specialize in surgery but most dentists do not simply clean teeth and check for cavities anymore.
A lot of this has to do with the change in diet of Americans. We are eating more fatty and sugary foods. Smoking cigarettes has evolved into “hitting a juul” and sweet tea is consumed by the gallon. Also, who can pass up an ice cold Mountain Dew in the south?
With all of these factors coming into play, it stands to reason that dental offices are offering more and more services to fulfill the needs of their clients. The other day, one of my friends in Richmond, Virginia mentioned there are a ton of new dental offices opening in Short Pump. These offices also have a wide variety of services to reach a larger group of patients.
What I have noticed over the last several years is that dentist’s offices do not want their patients to go to another office for a specific service because they know they could lose that patient. That is a very tough pill to swallow as acquiring new patients is not easy. Once you have them, there is no reason to send them to someone else. It is just like any other service industry. The Ford dealership is not going to send you to the Chevy dealership to get new tires.
