If you are a DUI lawyer or law firm that would like to improve Google search rankings please reach out to me at email@example.com as I offer several monthly SEO and Local Search packages.
In July 2014 there has been a huge adjustment to the Google Local Pages search results. The classic “7 Pack” that was often based on location has completely changed. Domain authority and other web search signals are playing a much more prominent role. One of the biggest losers in this July 2014 update is the DUI attorney. Prior to the Google Local algorithm adjustment DUI lawyerss would show up in the “7 Pack”. While some industries and verticals have been reduced to a “3 Pack” or a “2 Pack” there are zero Local Search results for a local DUI attorney search. For more use my Google Local Search algorithm July 2014 update page.
Please note that this is a very fluid situation. At 2:07 pm est I performed an incognito search for “Los Angeles DUI Attorney” and this is what showed up:
Note that this is the classic “7 Pack” with the Google Maps listing on the right. There are also still addresses and the old look of the Google Local search result. This tells me that Google is still rolling out the algorithm change. Interestingly, when you search “Los Angeles DUI Lawyer” the local search does not show up at all. I did the same for both “DUI attorney” and “DUI lawyer” for Chicago, Raleigh, Miami and Houston and the Google Local search did not show up at all.
What Can DUI Attorneys Do?
At this point in time, there is not a lot a law firm can do. This is just another step that Google has taken that will push lawyers and law firms to build a very strong natural internet presence with their website. Many have asked how they can build domain authority for their website, Google Plus My Business Page or any other web entity. I explain that in more detail here: Does Domain Authority Affect Google Local Search? The best way to build domain authority is to provide value in a unique way. If another lawyer is using a particular method there is no reason to copy. Google values unique and quality content. Find a way to create it for your website. If you would like to know more on how to do this reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Another alternative would be a strong YouTube presence. It is well known that YouTube videos show up very well in search. This is especially true for videos that have great content and a high retention rate as far as viewers. In the last year I have helped many lawyers and attorneys grow a presence on YouTube which has helped their overall website and business. Google Plus Hangouts on Air are very easy and they offer a unique way to produce content. Video interviews are the future of the legal SEO industry. Here is a YouTube video series I have been doing with a California Personal Injury Lawyer.
Is Lawyer SEO Different in 2014?
Yes and no. In my eyes, SEO has always been the same. Google based their algorithm on a college thesis. This means content and references are of the utmost importance. If you can provide quality content and you receive powerful references you are going to rank very well in Google search. Coming up with a strategy to create content that will naturally receive references (or links) can be quite difficult. That is why I offer monthly packages for both content creation and consulting. There has been a huge debate about social media links, dofollow links, nofollow links, etc over the years. Any reference is a great reference.
Even if the reference isn’t a link but a mention of your law firm or name it is still valuable. If you work to get your name out there in a positive light rather than trying to find the magic pill from the local SEO company you are going to be much better off. Please understand that it takes a lot of great content for a website to rank well. It becomes a numbers game. If you published 20 great blog posts you are much less likely to get natural shares and links when compared to 250 great blog posts. Find a way to come up with amazing content that has not been published before. Much more on that here: Personal Injury Lawyer SEO.
SEO is different to some because there have been major changes in terms of Panda, Penguin, Hummingbird and now the July 2014 local search update. If you had written your website like a college thesis with amazing content and valuable references you would have absolutely nothing to worry about. If this is not possible with your old website it is well worth it to start fresh today and build a website that will rank in Google or any search engine for years to come. For more on starting this process do not hesitate to reach out to me at email@example.com.
2015 Mobile Search Algorithm Update
On April 21st, 2015 there will be a major adjustment to Google mobile search results. Google has announced they are going to update their algorithm for mobile friendliness pages. If you have a website that is not mobile friendly you can expect to see mobile search rankings drop quickly. Google made this announcement back in February so DUI lawyers have an opportunity to stay ahead of the curve and make certain their websites look good on mobile devices; remember that this includes tablets and iPads as well.
If you have an old Justia or FindLaw website there is a chance that it is not mobile friendly. If you would like to know more about make certain you have a mobile version of your website feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org as I can direct you down the right path. It would be a good decision to make certain everything is good to go before the April 21st date hits.
