If you are a lawyer or law firm that wants to rank better in Google search contact me at email@example.com. I have monthly SEO and content packages.
This is actually the first blog post I am doing that is transcribed by Rev.com. This is a service that was introduced to me by a friend. I firmly believe that anyone who has video or audio files on the internet should be using this service. It is very affordable. It’s only $1 a minute and it allows you to get content to your website. Anyone who knows me knows that I believe that content is the most important part about SEO, it’s the most important part about ranking in Google search. It is the way you can defeat your competition, no matter how big they are.
How to Rank in Google Search
I personally work with lawyers, attorneys, dentists, orthodontists, real estate agents, mortgage brokers and all of them come to me with the same need. They want to dominate Google search. They want to find a way to get exposure online that is consistent and constant throughout time. The best way to do that is through Google search. Now, you can go on Facebook or Twitter and you can probably have a post that goes viral, but the half-life of that post is no more than a few hours. If you’re very lucky, you might have a post that goes viral for a full day, but after you have created that post and put the time and effort and created the photo and the audio file and everything, it’s gone.
If that post ranks in Google search from now until your website is taken down. Until some time in the very distant future, you’re going to rank on the front page of Google Search. Ranking on the front page of Google search is extremely valuable because Google is where people go when they’re ready to pick up the phone and they’re ready to make a purchase. If you’re selling homes in Chapel Hill, North Carolina or Los Angeles, California or anywhere in the world, someone doesn’t go on Facebook and say, “Hey, does anyone know a real estate agent I should use?” They don’t go on Twitter and say, “I’m looking to buy a new home.” They immediately go to Google and they search “homes for sale Chapel Hill, North Carolina” or “best real estate agent in Los Angeles“. If you happen to be number one, your phone is ringing all the time.
This leads me back to my beginning with transcription of audio files and video files. One of the biggest problems my clients have is they don’t have time. They’re very busy professionals. A personal injury lawyer I work with, he might get 10 or 15 minutes a week to contact me just to get updates on his website and how he ranks for car accident lawyer or slip-and-fall lawyer, whatever the case may be. He doesn’t have time to sit and write 10,000 word blog posts. He doesn’t have time to sit and internally link back and forth from one post to another and make certain his SEO is properly optimized. That’s not his skill set. His skill set is winning cases in the courtroom. That’s where he should be. In all reality, there’s no reason for him to try to learn how to create content online and optimize it and this, that and the other. Part of that is my job, part of that is just allowing the Google algorithms to work.
The one way Google algorithms will always work is the more quality content you have on your website, the higher it’s going to rank in Google search. Part of the reason that I am creating these blog posts through Rev.com and transcribing my blog posts is I am fully aware that the more content you have, the higher you’re going rank. Ultimately, I would like to do 18 minute audio recordings, send it over to Rev, Rev will transcribe it and then I’ll have 3,500 or 4,000 words on a page in what took me 18 minutes and cost me $18.
To me, that is well worth it. I only type about 80 or 90 words a minute and I have to sit there and think what I’m going to type. I have to edit and I have to change fonts and all that stuff. Ultimately, a 3,500 word article typing would probably take me anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, if it’s a topic I enjoy, whereas, I can do this in 18 minutes and the cost is just well worth it. There’s no doubt in my mind that $1 a minute with transcription is worth it.
How Many Words Can I Speak vs Type?
I did a little research. I went out and look at some people and how many words per minute they speak and I talk a lot. I know that. I’ve been doing it my whole life. I generally speak between 160 and 200 words a minute. There’s nobody out there that’s going to type that fast. Nor are you going to type that fast, you’re not going to think that fast to get words on a page. That’s always been a major problem with me is I’ll have 20 ideas rolling through my head and my fingers can’t type as much as I’m thinking. That’s part of the reason I’m doing these audio files.
I don’t really know how I’m going to address them uploading. I assume I’ll upload them to SoundCloud. I don’t expect anybody to find this on SoundCloud. I’m not going to create a podcast. Those are for people who already have a following. While I do have a following online, the more value to me are words on a page. When you put words on a page, people are going to find you through Google search. Here’s a quick example of how that works: I could create a podcast and I could try to build an audience through a podcast on iTunes or anywhere online. I know there’s Stitcher and a couple of these other websites. I’m certain you can even do one now through Twitch, which is a video game website.
Anyway, what happens is you’re allowed to put a title and a brief description and that’s all Google sees. Google sees the title of your blog post, which this one’s going to be “Why You Should Transcribe Your Audio and Video Files”, and then you know, a paragraph description. That’s all Google can find, those 50 words, maybe 100 words at most, whereas this is going to be 3,500 words that Google can find. Think of all those different variations of key words that are going to be in this particular blog post that Google is going to be able to crawl, index and find. I mentioned personal injury lawyers and transcription earlier, so it very well may be the case that you’re reading this blog post because you searched “personal injury lawyer video transcription” or “personal injury lawyer audio transcription” whatever the case may be.
If I had just had a podcast or just a SoundCloud file, you’re never finding this and your definitely not going to sit and listen to all 18 minutes. That’s the great thing about having a website is on a website even though this is going be 3,500 to 4,000 words, I don’t expect people to read all of it. At the top of my website, I have a “contact me” option, so even if you read two minutes of something and you find it interesting, then you can reach out to me and that’s a potential business relationship I have started. It’s crazy to me how business owners and how marketers and how experts and gurus have yet to figure this out. Every single day I see these SEO and social media experts pounding Google plus, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, all these places and none of them are producing long form content on their website. It shocks me.
Why Your Law Firm Should Be Creating Content
I have this conversation with one of my good friends pretty much every single day. There are very few people online who are actually producing words on a page. That’s often all it takes. If you are a lawyer, if you’re an orthodontist, if you’re a real estate agent, if you want to sell mortgage broker services, put words on a page. Instead of going out there and trying to build a Twitter following, and trying to figure out how Snapchat works and trying to get “likes” on Instagram, put words on a page. Now, something that’s going to make that a whole lot easier is having a content management system that allows you to easily put words on a page.
Just today, I wrote the article “Why Lawyers Would Benefit from a WordPress Blog“. One of my clients actually asked me, “What are the advantages of converting from Foster Web Marketing or Avvo or FindLaw or Justia to a WordPress blog. It’s really easy, because WordPress is easy. It’s basically like Gmail. I actually say it’s easier than Gmail. You can go into WordPress, select your … let’s say with this Rev file, they’re going to email me a document file. I’m going to select the content of the word, I’m going to paste it into WordPress, everything’s good to go. I hit publish. That’s all I have to do. It is truly that easy. It’s as easy as copying and pasting.
Another great thing about WordPress is it allows you to quickly and easily break up your content with subheadings, you can put in photos, you can put in audio files such as this one, you can put in video files such as a YouTube video. It just makes it super, super easy. If you believe like I do that content is king on the internet and you need as much content as possible, WordPress is by far and away the best way to get this content on a page.
If you have any questions about WordPress, if you want to build a WordPress website, I offer those services, please feel free to contact me. I have many clients who have come to me that they had no web presence at all or they had an old website that needed to be converted to WordPress and that process was completed. It’s smarter to do it sooner rather than later. The longer you wait to convert to WordPress, the harder it’s going to be because all of those pages need to be moved. Basically, you need to copy and paste all of those pages. If you’re a lawyer on FindLaw or Justia or you’re a real estate agent on RealPro, you’re going to have to move those pages. If you have tens of thousands of pages, it’s going to cost a lot because those pages have to be moved. It’s something that I feel needs to be done with some clients.
Now, if you find yourself ranking well on Google search and you don’t mind the struggles of getting the content on your website, hey run with it. Continue to use that particular service, but never give up on producing content. Every single day, you should be thinking of ways to get more content to your website. If that means buying the content from a copywriter or hiring a paralegal for your firm or whatever the case may be, always have content going on your page. Something you have to make certain of is that this content is 100% unique. If you are ever concerned that you have hired an employee or you have contracted out a copywriter or you’ve gone somewhere to get copywriting services and you feel as if this content is not unique, a quick way to figure that out is to just go to Google and search one of the sentences in the article. If that sentence pops up somewhere, you immediately fire that copywriter or you tell them that their services are no longer needed because the content must be unique.
Unique Content Will Always Matter to Google
That’s once again one of the values of creating this type of content is you’re using audio to come up with content. This audio clip is your voice. There’s no way it’s not going to be your voice. For me, I know without a shadow of a doubt this content is 100% unique and it will very likely rank very well. One of the reasons you’re reading this piece of content is you found my website on Google and I produced this content with my voice, Rev transcribed it and now here you are reading it through a blog post.
Something I get a lot, a question that will be asked a lot is if I can’t create content, what other options do I have? Should I go on Facebook and share my posts? Should I go on Twitter, this that and the other. My answer to that is spend you’re time creating content. Even if you only have 10 minutes a day, any post on Facebook is not indexed in Google. Any tweet you send out is not going to rank high in Google. Take that 10 minutes to draft a blog post and just work on it over time. If you only get 100 words a day, don’t hit publish, just save it as a draft and continue to work on it every day. If you take 10 minutes every day and do 100 words, at the end of the week, you’re going to have 500 to 700 words on a blog post and it’s going to be really good.
Should You Hire a Copywriter?
A problem a lot of people have, and this is why I get contacted a lot is, “I don’t know how to write. I’m not a good writer. I’m not a good copywriter. I’m not creative. I can’t come up with this stuff.” That’s something that you have to consider when building your online presence. If you’re not a good writer, I would strongly suggest hiring someone. If you need some advice, feel free to reach out to me. I have a team of copywriters. I’m a copywriter myself. We can come up with a strategy to get content on your page.
I can assure you, you’re not going to build a large internet presence unless you’re a supermodel or Oprah Winfrey or someone on TV, your not going to build a large internet presence without content. That’s how I got started. Everybody asks me, “How do you have 4,000 Snapchat followers? How do you get 5,000 search visitors to your website a day? How do you rank so well for all these keywords? How do you get so many clients?” Every time I will tell you the answer is content. Content, content, content. I write all the time. Now, I’m going to talk all the time because I have the opportunity with Rev at a very affordable rate, to get it transcribed. Get content on your page. Do it now.
The Best Ways to Dictate Blog Posts and Content
Think about using your iPhone, using your Android phone, when you’re driving to work, just talk into your Android phone. If you’re a real estate agent, it’s super easy, “Hey, I’m driving down Meadowmont Lane. I’m going to an open-house. It’s 234 Meadowmont Circle. The house is a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house.” All these are keywords that are going to rank extremely well in Google. If you’re a personal injury lawyer, obviously client confidentiality is extremely important, but you can absolutely go on there and say, “Hey, I’m headed to the downtown Los Angeles courthouse. I’m defending a client who will go unnamed. It’s a slip-and-fall injury. She was shopping at a Target and at the Target there was a floor that was soaking wet. Several of the employees were extremely negligent. They didn’t put up any signs.” These are all very valuable keywords that are going to help you rank in search. What else are you doing in your car? What else are you doing when you’re sitting at home?
A great opportunity to do it is to think about when you’re sitting at home or sitting in the office or if you’re waiting for your wife or your husband to cook dinner, whatever the case may be, feel free to pull out your phone, create audio content and then send it over to Rev. It’s super easy. Now, if you’re a writer, it’s a little harder because you can’t necessarily write on your phone. I’ve tried to do WordPress on my iPhone. It’s a little easier on a tablet but to me, audio’s the way to go.
How “Talkers” Can Dominate Google Search
If you’re a talker, if you enjoy talking, which God knows I absolutely do that’s why I’m doing these audio files, you could absolutely kill it with SEO because it’s an affordable rate. Even if you talk for an hour, if you sit and talk to your phone for an hour on your trip to work, or like I’m sitting in my office right now talking, you have the opportunity to create 60 minutes of content. Let’s just say you’re a slow talker at 100 words, that’s 6,000 words of content that Google is going to crawl, index and rank. Within no time, you’re going to start ranking for keywords you would have never even imagined.
I get emails all the time from people who say they found me on Google search for stuff I don’t even remember writing. I mean, how in the world did you find me for Chapel Hill Snapchat expert? I’ve never written that article, but the combination of words are somewhere on my website. Don’t think that you need to just put up a SoundCloud file or just need to do a podcast. You’re limiting yourself greatly by doing that. You need to get many, many words on a page and have many variations of these keywords. This will allow you the opportunity to rank for an unlimited number of keywords and then you’re going to find you’re going to get more clients, you’re going to get more customers, the phones are going to start ringing and you’re no longer going to have to worry about marketing efforts. Those yellow pages ad, paying Google ad words, paying Facebook or Zillow or advertising on TV, all that is going to not be a concern because now you’re going to have a steady stream of traffic coming to your website and this traffic will convert.
That’s the greatest thing about Google search traffic is it actually converts because people are looking to pick up the phone and make a purchase. Get out there, make some audio files, send them over to Rev. All you have to have is an mp4 file, you can upload it to SoundCloud or you can just send them the mp4 file directly. They will convert it for … they will transcribe it for you and you’re going to have thousands and thousands of words of content on your page. You’re going to rank a lot higher in Google search.
