This is a question we are often asked. A number of individual website owners or webmasters want to earn a side income on their website but they have no idea how much money they can make. Well, let us lay it out for you. You are going to make about $1 to $2.50 for every 1000 visitors. If you want to make in the higher end of that range you will need more search visitors than direct or social visitors. In fact, if you get the large majority of your traffic from social media you could be well under $1 per 1000 visitors.
If you have delusions of grandeur and think you can make $20 or $30 for every 1000 visitors you had better be in a very high paying niche (financial or legal) or have one of the best websites on the web. In essence, if you aren’t getting around one million visitors a month you cannot expect to make a ton of money on Adsense.
That being said, if you build a niche website that has quality content you could end up making between $250 and $500 every month. That is not bad for a side income that does not require a significant amount of work once it has been established. Make a note of that – once it has been established. It takes a lot of hard work, effort and tons of content to get traffic to a website. It is not an overnight process.
If you think you can start a website on March 1st and can start making $1000 a month by May 1st you are fooling yourself. Google is aware of how much traffic you should be getting to generate income. If you are a complete outlier you may even find that Google looks at your website to determine if you are truly an authority in a specific topic area. Remember, there is an Adsense algorithm penalty that most people never talk about.
The best thing you can do is create amazing content and see what happens. If you do it the right way you can end up earning a couple thousand dollars on the side each month. If you want to make six figures with Adsense you will need a website that makes $273 a day. That means your website will need around 138,000 visitors every single day. Go for it!
