Almost all “SEO Experts” and Search Engine websites are talking about AMP these days. AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages and it is Google’s response to Facebook’s Instant News Articles. In essence, it is a way for people to quickly load news articles on their phone to read without having to download an entire website. Recently, Google updated their mobile algorithm to illustrate which websites have AMP pages. It looks like this:
Notice the AMP with the lightning symbol beside the search result crawl time. It is important to note that the AMP symbol does not show up only for real time search results. When you search more long term, stable search terms you will notice some results have the AMP symbol as well.
So, if you are a personal injury law firm, do you need to install AMP on your website? You need to ask yourself if your potential clients are more likely to click the search result if there is an AMP beside it. In all likelihood, 99% of Google search users have no idea what AMP means or how it benefits them.
If you are adamant that your website needs AMP, then install it. There are a number of easy to install WordPress plugins that will make it quick and easy. If you have FindLaw or Justia it might be a little bit harder. Either way, getting it installed should not cost you an arm and a leg.
Ultimately, having AMP on your website is not going to make a major difference in terms of SEO. If you have amazing content, a strong link portfolio and proper backend coding you are not going to be overtaken by competitors simply because they have AMP installed on their website. Do not think this is going to be a major ranking factor that makes your website move up or down in the Google Search rankings.
