With a new year comes a new update. January can be considered the tester month of 2018,
and here we are at the end of it. February is right around the corner, and so is the new Snapchat update release in the United States. As the new Snapchat is released around the world, there have been many complaints. Will this change the way Snapchat is used?
Being a college student, I meet new people every weekend, and it is hard for me to keep track of which name belongs to which face. With Snapchat, it is very easy to quickly add a friend with the snap code, and for the majority of users I add, I can see their bitmoji. The bitmoji is a little animated version of you that makes it easier to recognize people and to remember them.
Stories are another way that helps me remember who my new Snapchat friends are. Many times I will see a new name on my list of stories, and I will watch out of curiosity of my new friend. With the new Snapchat update, I will not be able to do this. The stories feature is now split into two sides; the right being the media side, and the left being your friends. You will have the chats as they normally were, but to see stories, you have to scroll through the names of people who you snap. This can be an issue, because I watch stories of people that I have never sent a snap to before, or haven’t sent a snap to in a while. It is curious how Snapchat will handle this complaint that many people are having.
There is another new feature that I find to be annoying. You can no longer hold down the line of text to save the message, you have to choose copy, or save in chat. However, not everyone saves their messages in Snachat, so many won’t even notice this update. I save all of my messages sent in the chat side of Snapchat, so to me this just adds another annoyance. Snapchat 2018 may have some bones to pick with their users, we just have to wait and see how they handle it.
