News: Flash Floods Snapchat Story on October 4th, 2015

Hurricane Joaquin crushed the east coast this weekend causing floods throughout much of South Carolina and North Carolina. On Friday night and Saturday I noticed some Snapchat users had the “Historic Flooding” filter for their stories. Although I live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina I did not have this filter. After the filter went live I knew it was all in due time before Snapchat published a national story on the floods. Here are a few of the screenshots I took of this story:

I love what one guy on Twitter had to say:

“Insane videos of South Carolina floods showing how valuable Snapchat is at being a breaking news resource. Everyone’s a network cameraperson now.”

Exactly. I look for many more breaking news stories on Snapchat as we move into the future. Any time there is a breaking news event people are going to start going to Snapchat rather than Twitter and Facebook. It is going to get very interesting for Snapchat.
